L'opera interminabile (The Endless Work)

The first, surprising, and essential canon on art in the new Millennium.

Artists like Kiefer and Hirst. Authors with a deep visual vocation, like Pamuk and Balestrini. Filmmakers like Greenaway and Inarritu. These are just a few of the protagonists of this fundamental canon of art in the 21st century, which also lets readers lacking specialisms (but who crowd exhibits and museums) to navigate contemporary art in a new, winning way.

The artists of this new century consider their own works like cosmologies, monumental works-worlds, plural, ambitious, impossible to transfer or set up anew. Open, mobile, and ubiquitous territories, within which non-contiguous practices and languages – painting, sculpture, film, video, literature – encounter one another and reconfigure themselves, losing their own original identity. In the book, like a puzzle, each work is a self-standing tessera whose mysteries are revealed through images, projects, and sketches. Because art is first understood with the eyes, and this is a book to read and look at. And, like a puzzle, in the end the tesserae come together, showing the ambitious design they compose: reclaiming and relaunching the Renaissance and Romantic utopia of the total work of art.
